Our Biogas Anaerobic Digestion Plant

Brocklesby have invested heavily in our North Cave site and 2017 saw the construction and completion of a Biogas Anaerobic Digestion Facility. This marks a very significant development in our recycling business in terms of innovative food waste recycling practices and our overall strategy of commitment to sustainability and protecting the environment.

Brocklesby Biogas

We are proud to be leading the way in innovative and sustainable food waste management solutions. Our strategy is based on building strong collaborative business partnerships and our technology plays a key role in our recycling business activities and our strategic direction for the future.

At Brocklesby, our anaerobic digestion facility has the capacity for processing up to 60,000 tonnes of liquid food waste per year. The plant is based on a modular system allowing for further growth and development, backed by our growth strategy and aspirations for the future.

Leading The Way With Innovation And Expertise

Our Anaerobic Digestion plant enables us to complete our recycling process onsite based on the recycling of final effluent waste. The addition of this innovative technology to the Brocklesby site and to our overall waste recycling methods has significant cost benefits as well as numerous long term environmental benefits and sustainability.

The biogas produced by anaerobic digestion is captured in combined heat and power (CHP) plants to produce electricity and heat. Generating 3.5MW of electricity per year provided to the national grid, this is the equivalent of powering 10,500 homes.

In addition, the heat produced by the process which is a valuable green energy will be used onsite for the operational side of our business. A further by-product of the process, is a valuable bio-fertiliser which will be distributed onto farm land, as an environmental alternative to fossil fuel derived fertilisers.

Our Biogas Anaerobic Digestion Plant Significantly Reduces Our Carbon Footprint

Brocklesby, as a leading food waste recycling company, has always been committed to sustainability and protecting the environment.

Our Biogas Anaerobic Digestion Plant is further evidence of this commitment and this onsite facility enables us to reduce the carbon footprint of both our customers and our own company.

This is achieved by the following:

  • Our whole cycle of recycling is now completed onsite and on this basis we are removing 44 tonne road tankers from the roads and motorway networks and thereby reducing our carbon footprint.
  • We are making green renewable energy from waste on our own site, which in turn reduces our reliance on fossil fuels, which release carbon dioxide when burned adding to the greenhouse effect and increasing global warming.
  • Every tonne of food waste we recycle by anaerobic digestion achieves a zero food waste to landfill ratio.
  • The nutrient rich bio-fertiliser which is a by-product of the anaerobic digestion process is used as a land fertiliser.
  • Our Anaerobic Digestion Plant ensures that the final destination of food waste from our clients is green electricity, which plays a significant role in supply chain credentials for both ourselves and our customers.

Our Strategy For The Future

As a business, Brocklesby focus on best practice Corporate Social Responsibility and this plays a key role in all of our business activities. We will continue to provide transparent and tangible evidence of our commitment to sustainability and protecting the environment for generations to come.

Our strategy is to actively manage our environmental impact and also to work closely with our clients and suppliers in achieving this. Brocklesby will strive to achieve a more sustainable society through our continued investment in innovation and our energy efficient world class recycling facility.
